Crowborough Athletic have announced that they will be running a Football Academy from September at their facilities in Crowborough.
The Academy will be run in partnership with EMC Academy, who will supply the coaching element on Crowborough Athletic’s grounds with the educational aspect of the programme run out of their clubhouse.
EMC Academy is run and managed by UEFA licensed Jonny Elwood and assisted by former Bristol City defender Henry Muggeridge and goalkeeper Lewis Carey.
The educational element of the course will be under the control of Ofsted approved organisation Let Me Play, who also work with professional clubs in the South East of England.
As well as giving the young players the opportunity to develop technically, mentally and physically. Four mornings per week the students will study a BTEC Level 3 (Subsidiary) Diploma in Sport which is a 2 year programme which is the equivalent to 2 A levels. The players will also work towards their FA coaching badges, and if they wish, also referee qualifications.
On a Wednesday the players will play a game against other development squads in an Academy League.
Chairman Tony Bowen hopes the Academy will enable the Club to develop younger players ultimately strengthening the U21 Squad and First Teams. He told CrowboroughLife:
Every since I’ve been involved in the Club we’ve been talking about an Academy, and that’s about four years. This year we had the opportunity to put it in place. We’ve got the right people involved and the right the necessary infrastructure. I’m confident it will be a success.
It is the future for Crowborough Athletic. It will get the Club, and the town, more recognised.
Young people now have to stay in eduction or training until aged 18. After leaving the Academy, graduates might want to consider further study, such as sports science or a teaching qualification, or work as a fitness instructor. Two further trials are being held this Spring:
- Thursday 17th March 2016, starting at 7pm
- Monday 4th April 2016, starting at 10am
- Friday 13th May, starting at 6.30pm
