Early next year Croft Road and the High Street in Crowborough will be closed to traffic to allow the gas main to be replaced
The work will be completed in two phases:
From Monday 6th January until Friday 28th February, Croft Road will be closed to traffic in both directions from Mister Smith Interiors to the junction with the High Street.
From Monday 3rd February until Friday 6th March, the High Street will be closed to Northbound traffic from the Croft Road to Crowborough Cross. During this period motorists will still be able to travel South down the High Street towards Crowborough Hill.
The permits issued impose a restriction: The work on Croft Road and the High Street must be undertaken consecutively, not concurrently. This means they can’t do both areas at the same time. The permit covers the whole period, but allows the contractor to move onto the High Street if they finish Croft Road early.
When Croft Road is closed a diversion will be in place via Church Road and Crowborough Hill. The 28/29 bus service will be unable to serve the stop on Croft Road by Mill Lane during this time.
When the High Street is closed, a diversion for Northbound traffic will take vehicles via Crowborough Hill and Green Lane.
SGN, the company which manages the gas distribution network in Southern England, will be replacing the old metal mains with plastic pipes. SGN have said a drop-in session is being arranged next month to provide further information.
SGN have been asked whether there will be any interruptions to gas supplies locally. In addition, clarification is being sought whether access will be maintained to the Croft Road / Waitrose car park and if the work will still allow deliveries to be made to shops.
