Privacy & Cookie Policy

By accessing the site, you are consenting to the way information is collected and used as described below.

If you have any queries or would like clarification on any point, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

Newsletter:

Crowborough Life produces a Newsletter to keep residents up-to-date with what is going locally.

If you choose to subscribe, your email address will only be used by us for this purpose. It will never be passed to any third parties.

Comments:

You can choose to comment on articles, by adding additional relevant information and your views at the bottom.

People who choose to submit comments have to enter a name and an email address; or alternatively they can log into WordPress or use one of their social media accounts.  The Internet Protocol Address (or IP Address) of the device they are using is also recorded.

Crowborough Life moderates comments made by readers before they are displayed on the website.

We welcome different opinions and debate; but personal attacks, obscene or hurtful language, or anything that is considered objectionable or that may put us (and you) in legal jeopardy, will not be approved. Comments that are off-topic also may not be approved.

When possible we will explain why we have not approve your comment - thereby giving you the opportunity to edit what you want to say and the language used.  The email address and IP Address is not displayed (only the person's name and their comment).  Personal information will not be disclosed to any other party without prior permission or unless we are required to do so by law.

Advertising:

Crowborough Life is only possible because of funding from advertising and sponsorship.

As well as accepting adverts directly from local businesses, the website subscribes to Google Ads.  Google, and their partners, use information such as the subject of the article, other types of sites you look and your location, to select the most relevant advert.  For example, if you've been looking at photography websites recently, you are likely to see adverts about cameras for sale when you surf the web.

Google uses the the DoubleClick cookie on your browser to work-out which adverts you'll find most interesting.  You can modify the Ads Settings in order to update your interests, age and gender, or remove unwanted ads.

As Google participates in AdChoices, you'll see this blue triangle logo in the corner of their adverts.  Just click on it to find-out more about how interest-based advertising works and how you can manage your preferences.

We sometimes earn commission when readers purchase products or services from some third-party websites. For example, as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Like all adverts or promotional items on the website, all links of this nature are clearly identifiable.

An advert does not necessarily mean that we endorse the business.

Cookies:

Like most websites, Crowborough Life puts small text files known as 'cookies' on your computer, tablet or mobile phone.  These cookies are safe and secure, and are used to improve the services we provide to you.

Crowborough Life is created using the popular WordPress software.

WordPress uses cookies to store basic data about your interactions, such as whether you have logged in. Cookies are also used to recognise if you have previously submitted a comment on the website.  This is purely a convenience, so that you won't need to re-type your username or email address again when you want to leave another comment.

Other cookies allow us to recognise and count the number of visitors and to see how you move around the site when you're using it.  Crowborough Life uses Google Analytics to track visitor interactions.  This data does not identify individual users, but produces anonymous statistics, and helps us to improve the way our website works.

We have turned-on Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting to get an idea of user demographics (age and gender) and interests.  We use the data to develop the site and its contents.

You can opt-out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and customize Google Display Network ads using the Ads Settings.  In addition, you can use the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on to disable tracking by Google Analytics.

The website also uses Facebook Pixel.  This code tracks the actions of people who click on a Facebook Ad and then are redirected to the website.

Crowborough Life also uses some other specialist software applications to perform additional tasks, such as YouTube to play videos. Some of these so called 'plug-ins' also set their own cookies.
