At the annual meeting of Wealden’s Full Council today (19th May), Councillor Ron Reed (Conservative, Crowborough Central) was elected Chairman of the Council for the next year by his fellow councillors. Cllr Angela Snell (Conservative, Polegate Central) was elected Vice Chairman.

Cllr Reed, who lives on Southridge Rise in Crowborough, was first elected to Wealden District Council in 2015. He was previously Vice Chairman.

It was the first face to face meeting of Full Council since February 2020 which also welcomed four newly elected District Councillors: Michael Baker (Conservative, Heathfield North), Tom Guyton-Day (Conservative, Heathfield South), Paul Holbrook (Liberal Democrat, Hailsham North), and Kevin Balsdon (Conservative, Hailsham South).

The departing Chairman of two years, Councillor Pam Doodes, thanked Members and Officers of the Council for their support during her time in office. During this time, Cllr Doodes has worked tirelessly in support of Wealden businesses and local charities, and continued to do so despite the challenges of the pandemic. Last year, 21 local people and groups were recognised in the Chairman’s Community Awards, which celebrated Wealden’s Covid Community Heroes.

During the past two years Ron Reed has been a great help and support to me, always there with a listening ear and always willing to step in when the need arises.

In response to Cllr Doodes’ kind words, Cllr Reed said:

It’s been a pleasure helping Pam, and I’m looking forward to a good year.
