Crowborough Town Council has been awarded £50,000 from Sport England towards major improvements to the water systems at Goldsmiths Changing Rooms.

The current changing rooms have fallen into disrepair, but the improvements costing up to £135,000 in total, will result in modern showers, washing and toilet facilities.

The work requires installing a larger gas and water mains, new boilers and a plate heat exchanger, plus other repairs and improvements.

The changing rooms are used by several football clubs who play at Goldsmiths, as well as the adjacent Pétangue Club.   It is hoped better facilities will enable this underused building to be opened up to a wider range of sports clubs and provide a springboard from which sporting opportunities could be expanded at the Recreation Ground.

The Mayor of Crowborough, Councillor Peter Cowie, said:

Without this generous grant from Sport England it would not have been possible for Crowborough Town Council to embark on this major upgrade to a public sports facility.  I congratulate Town Council staff on their initiative in securing this funding so that Crowborough will have a share in the 2012 Olympics’ legacy.

Sport-EnglandCrowborough Town Council is among 324 local sports projects to secure a share of £17 million of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund.

Since 2011, Inspired Facilities has been helping breathe new life into tired community sports facilities and converting existing buildings into venues suitable for grassroots sport.
