Ralph and Yvette Bennett have announced that they are to retire and that Fisssh are taking over. The Bennett family have been frying fish and chips in Crowborough for 59 years.
The statement on their Facebook page thanked their loyal customers.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers past and present for your loyalty and custom.Ralph and Yvette Bennett
We would also like to thank the many employees that we have had the pleasure to work with and especially those that supported us and worked so hard through the pandemic.
Week commencing 18th April 2022 we are pleased to be leaving Bennetts in the capable hands of FISSSH. Our wonderful employees will continue to serve you Quality Fish and Chips.
We are very excited about the future for Bennetts and ask you kindly to continue to support them.
Wishing you all Health and Happiness.
Fisssh opened on the High Street in the former Nat West Bank last July, initially as a takeaway, before their restaurant opened in November.
Fisssh shared Ralph and Yvette’s posting on their social media account, wishing the couple a well-earned retirement, adding they were “pleased to be carrying on this legacy”.
There has been warnings the industry is under pressure with the impact of the war in Ukraine hitting energy prices and effecting the cost of oil. Fisssh have recently responded by introducing a more affordable small sized cod.
In addition, a new Facebook page was created by Fisssh on 13th March called “Pop’s”, with the description “Bringing Southern Fried Chicken to Crowborough!!!”
Keven the owner at Fissh paid tribute to the couple and explained about Pop’s Authentic Chicken:
We are extremely excited about taking over from what Ralph and Yvette have created, as you know – The whole industry has taken a huge hit recently with the effects of covid and Ukraine war, but the support everyone in Crowborough is showing both sites is truly amazing.
As we want the transition to be as smooth as possible we already have someone working along side Ralph and his team to learn Bennett’s customers likes and dislikes.
Rest assured we will not be making any major changes, we will be running it the same way as Ralph and Yvette have done so for many years, although you may see some very small changes, that we feel would improve the food and service offering.
Pop’s Authentic Chicken, this will be a secondary to anything we currently do. Currently we are planning to install it within one of our sites in Crowborough, but rest assured it will not be a chicken shop at Bennett’s, simply an additional offering at either site.
Please remember we are not trying to take anything away from the tremendous job that Ralph & Yvette have done at Bennetts, we are as they are a family business looking to offer the best possible Food and service.Kevin Gibbons, Fisssh
