Yesterday a burglar from Basildon was jailed after he stole £11,000 worth of jewellery from an 85-year-old woman in Crowborough in June last year.
Joe Haide, 29, of Lincoln Road, Basildon, admitted three offences at Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday 6th March.
Yesterday (Wednesday 11th April) he was sentenced to a total of seven years and two months for stealing from elderly people in Norfolk, Essex and Sussex.
On 22nd September, Haide and Victor Oladipo, who was 17 at the time, forced entry into a home in Basildon and threatened an elderly couple, aged 97 and 87.
Haide and Oladip, who were carrying metal pole like weapons had their faces covered. They searched their home and stole a bracelet and four necklaces.
Police reviewed nearby CCTV and found that Haide and Oladipo parked a vehicle on a neighbouring road and were seen acting suspiciously, going through into bushes to gain entry to the victim’s property.
Investigating officer DC Nicholas May, of Basildon CID, said:
An elderly couple were put through a horrific ordeal when Haide and Oladipo, armed with weapons, forced entry to their home.
They then searched through the couple’s bedroom before leaving with jewellery.
I want to thank both the victims for their courage and bravery throughout our investigation and through the court process, which has resulted in Haide and Oladipo serving lengthy sentences in prison.
Victor Oladipo, 18, of Dewsgreen, Basildon, was sentenced to four years for the burglary in Basildon.
