You may see more bobbies on the beat tomorrow (Friday 8th August) as Sussex Police launch a new initiative called ‘All Out Days’ to test the force’s resilience.
Aimed at ensuring the best possible response to the demands placed on the force by a major or critical incident, officers who usually work in less visible areas such as staff training, professional standards and command teams will be supporting frontline colleagues with the added benefit of enhanced visibility out on the streets of Sussex.
They will be carrying out a variety of roles including attending and investigating burglaries and supporting road safety campaigns, giving officers an opportunity to refresh their skills and gain experience of working in areas of policing they wouldn’t normally work in, helping to build a multi-skilled workforce.
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Barry said:
In addition to testing our resilience, ‘All Out Days’ are an opportunity to really support those who work everyday in front line policing and focus on priorities identified by local people. Other forces have successfully implemented this initiative and we are looking forward to seeing similar positive results in Sussex. In times of high demand, we need to ensure as many officers as possible can be used in operational duties. ‘All Out Days’ will test this and ensure we are equipped to meet these challenges in the future.
Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne, who will be joining officers in Horsham, said:
I am looking forward to meeting officers who are taking
part on Friday and seeing first-hand arrests being made for crimes that have a negative impact on the local community.
I know that many officers, who carry out vital but less visible work, will relish the opportunity to refresh and enhance their skills and join their colleagues on the frontline.
It is hoped that the ‘All Out Days’ will become a regular occurrence throughout the year and the force can identify good practice, testing the ability to deploy in a variety of situations.
