Beacon top-performing school for third year running

League Tables confirm Beacon Academy in Crowborough is the top-performing school in East Sussex, and one of the highest achieving schools in the country, for the third year running.

The Department for Education’s provisional national league tables published on Thursday (17th October), confirms Beacon Academy has a headline Progress 8 measure of 0.97, and is in the top 1.8% of all schools nationwide.

Progress 8 is the Government’s main performance measure, and reflects the value that schools add to the progress of their students in respect of their final GCSE grades, compared to that of their peers of similar prior attainment across the country.

The school is in an esteemed group of schools who are now categorised as ‘well above average’. The school has estimated that there are approximately 25 schools nationally who have been above Beacon for each of the last three years.

Headteacher, Anna Robinson, with the school’s Senior Student Leadership Team

Headteacher, Anna Robinson has said:

We are absolutely delighted for our students, our staff and the wider community to have sustained our exceptional outcomes. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and acknowledge my Headteacher colleagues and their staff, within the local area, who have also achieved some absolutely stunning outcomes for their students. As a body of staff, we remain beyond proud of all of our students and what they have achieved and as ever, we would also like to thank our parents and carers for their immeasurable support.

For the third year running, this accolade is a reflection of an exceptional amount of hard work, dedication and resilience throughout the academic year. Together we have all ensured that our students were in a prime position to achieve the very best outcomes, regardless of their starting points, to support and enable them to fulfil their ambitions for their futures. What our students have achieved via the progress and attainment that they have made will empower them to go and be successful in life, whether in education, employment or training, allowing them to stand shoulder to shoulder with their contemporaries, whether locally, nationally or globally in whatever area they choose to pursue and in doing so, we want them to be happy and successful. This is exactly what we want for all of our students at Beacon Academy.

When compared with schools within a 10 mile radius of Crowborough, Beacon Academy is in joint first position with Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School for this provisional Progress 8 measure: www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk.
