Beacon Swimming Club were pleased to welcome both the President and the Chairman of Sussex County Amateur Swimming Association.

On 2nd November, President Simon Taylor presented several Beacon swimmers with awards they achieved at the Sussex County Swimming Championships at the K2 in Crawley earlier this year.

Many excellent swims were recorded at the County Championships and it was a great achievement to have six Under 12 swimmers selected for the Sussex Development Squad. The swimmers selected were Thomas Brignell, George Souter, Anna Charters, Michael Dooris, Isabelle Hayden and Marcus Hayden.

Unfortunately Annabelle Souter could not be present, but her trophy, for winning the 13 year old age group, is on its way to her.

William Long, Chairman of Beacon Swimming Club, commented:

It is great to see the achievements of so many swimmers at the Club, which despite the lockdowns in 2020 has a record number of members and continues to go from strength to strength.

Whilst the strict lockdown in the Spring has been a setback for the whole swimming community, Beacon Swimming Club were delighted to be back in the pool in July as restrictions eased. The Club would like to thank Freedom Leisure and Wealden District Council for their support in getting the pool operational so quickly. Thanks also go to Holmewood House School in Langton Green who have provided use of their pool enabling more swimmers the opportunity to train. With the support of both Freedom Leisure and Holmewood House, Beacon Swimming Club have been able to welcome back over 220 swimmers to the pool since July. A final thanks to Crowborough Town Council who, through a Community Grant, have generously donated over £500 towards the cost of new equipment. Together with additional funds raised by members and supporters, the Club has been able to purchase backstroke wedges which enable swimmer to get an explosive start during training sessions and competitions.

It is with regret that the Club will have to cease swimming until 2nd December, but online fitness sessions and team building are continuing remotely.
