Beacon Academy supports local charity with Sponsored Walk funds

Students on Beacon Academy’s Council have voted to donate a proportion of funds raised during this year’s sponsored walk to local charity offering mental health counselling sessions.

Clued-up Info Shop, The Broadway, Crowborough is an independent charity, based in Crowborough town centre, that provides an invaluable service to young people in the area.  The charity relies on donations and funding grants for its provision and without support could be in danger of closing. supports students of Beacon Academy through regular, weekly provision of one-to-one counselling sessions that are bookable by the Pastoral Department at the school.  As Government funding become more and more stretched, these sessions are becoming increasingly important to the school.

Beacon Academy will be donating £500 from the money raised during the whole school 10km sponsored walk in September.

Mrs Jane Prowse, Behaviour, Safeguarding and Welfare Manager at Beacon Academy, commented:

With the increasing pressures on young people today we depend on the valuable services provided by Clued-Up without which some of our young people would struggle.

The Centre on The Broadway is open every weekday afternoon, and offers a welcoming, friendly and relaxed environment for young people aged from 11 to 25 and their families.  People can drop-in for information and advice in complete confidence on any subject, to socialise over a hot drink, or to use the computers to carry out research or to complete homework.

Much like Beacon Academy, have a Youth Council made up of local young people.  They meet after school every Thursday until 4.30pm.  The aim of the Youth Council is to support the community to make Crowborough and Rotherfield better places for young people by bringing different generations together for mutual gain, promoting an increase in subsidised activities for young people locally, and liaising with the Jarvis Brook Community Association to improve facilities in Jarvis Brook.

In addition to this, a Youth Club for 11 – 18 year olds runs every Tuesday at the Centre from 6.30-8.30pm.  Both the Youth Council and the Youth Club are keen to welcome new members.  Please contact for further information.
