Approximately two hundred people, including the Chairman of the County Council, delighting in the festive atmosphere of the church decorated with Christmas lights, candles and flowers.

Music and Drama students gave a series of traditional and contemporary festive recitals and readings, including performances from the Beacon Academy Choir, Chamber Orchestra, class, individual and group instrumental pieces, vocal and instrumental duets and a dramatic sketch.  Popular Year 10 Beacon Academy band, Fake News performed “Last Christmas” and Year 11 band, TN6 performed an upbeat version of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”.  Year 11 Music Class closed the concert with a performance of the Phil Spector classic, “Christmas, Baby Please Come Home”.

One of the contributing Year 11 students commented:

The concert was of exceptional quality.  Performing was absolutely wonderful and I really enjoyed my evening.

Mr Tom Cryle, Music Teacher at Beacon Academy expressed his appreciation:

A big thank you to my wonderful, hard-working students and to all the family and staff members who helped to make the concert possible.

The evening also featured a video of Beacon Academy’s annual Sixth Form trip to the Gambia.  The presentation provided information about their ongoing collaboration with community partners in the West African country, and the positive impact of donations to funding water systems, school buildings, equipment and resources, health centre buildings and equipment, health care programmes, and many other projects.

Following the performance on Thursday 14th December, Christmas nibbles and drinks provided by Waitrose and Beacon’s Food Technology Department were appreciated by the concert goers in return for a donation to the Sixth Form Gambia campaign.  An impressive £500 has been generously donated.

Mrs Caroline Thomas, Head of Performing Arts at Beacon Academy, congratulated Music Teacher Mr Tom Cryle and all the students involved, commenting:

Well done to everyone who performed tonight at the Carol Concert. Everyone was tremendous, what a great turn out, helping everyone get into the Christmas spirit.
