Ashdown School win Schools Environmental Challenge

Congratulations to Ashdown Primary School who have just been awarded a Silver Gilt and crowned overall Sussex winner in the Schools Environmental Challenge.

This is the first year South & South East in Bloom have organised the competition for schools and they received 15 entries.  Schools had to submit a portfolio showing how they encourage wildlife and increase biodiversity in school grounds by using bird feeders & bug hotels, native planting, wildflower meadows and constructing ponds and the like.  Schools also needed to demonstrate how pupils learn about the environment and what steps they have been taking to reduce the school’s environmental impact, such as by harvesting rain water and encouraging recycling.
