Ashdown Primary School: Champions of Sussex

On Wednesday 13th January the newly created, Ashdown Primary School, took part in the U11s Sussex Football Competition and became the first North Wealden winners for 30 years.

Ashdown-School-U11-teamAshdown Primary School was created in September 2015 when Whitehill and Herne schools in Crowborough, amalgamated to become a through primary under the leadership of Kate Owbridge.

The journey to football success started in early November 2015, where they won the Crowborough area competition, winning all of their games and only conceding one goal.  This amazing success was extended again later in November 2015, when they won all of their games in the north Wealden finals, this time without conceding a single goal.  The team’s next hurdle was the Sussex Final earlier this week.  This was against other area winners, including teams from West Sussex, East Sussex and Brighton and Hove.  The team had reached this stage last year; this time there was no stopping them! Through team work and sheer determination they roared to victory.

The team consists of Joshua Turner, Daniel Longhurst, Alfie Lambden, Sean Munro, Luke Thorns, William Bentley, Imogen Palmer, Elliott Sharp and Tom Lambden, under the expert coaching of Dan Allen.  Mr Allen said:

We are over the moon with their success and we are all very proud of them and what they have achieved so far.  The whole school is behind them and is looking forward to watching them at the next stage.

Headteacher Mrs Owbridge added:

I am extremely proud of the children and how they conducted themselves, whilst representing our school.  They showed total commitment and supported each other superbly. Ashdown Primary School’s achievements are the result of the children’s hardwork , which is supported by all the staff.

The regional finals will be held in London in March, we are sure that Ashdown Primary School will represent Sussex admirably.
