Are you aged between 12 & 16 – and looking for more adventure?

Are you up for fun, adventure, incredible experiences and making new friends? Are you looking for something to give you the edge in life?  Then welcome to the Air Cadet Organisation (ACO).  Better known as the ‘Air Cadets’.

Air Cadets1414 (Crowborough) Squadron ATC are now taking new recruits (boys and girls) aged between 12 (Year 8) and 16 years of age.

As a cadet you’ll have the opportunity to do things that others only dream about: Flying, marksmanship, drill, first aid, fieldcraft, climbing, canoeing, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, radio skills. They participate in local events, such as the Crowborough Boundary Walk, Eridge Horse Trials and Crowborough Carnival.  As you progress you can attend camps in this country and overseas.

Camps in the Lake District and Cyprus

Over the Easter holidays 1414 (Crowborough) Sqn ATC had cadets attended camps in Windermere and one spent 10-days at an RAF base in Cyprus with other cadets from other parts of the UK.

The cadets in the Lake District took part in an adventure training camp where they canoed and kayaked, went assailing and rock climbing, spent a day mountain walking and half a day mountain biking.  They also undertook swimming tests and went on a tree top trek.

The cadet at RAF Akrotiri was able to visit UN sites, take part in clay pigeon shooting, aircraft observation, leadership exercises and dragon boating.  The cadets also went to Waterworld, laser quest and on a day cruise around the bay.  They did section visits to a search and rescue squadron.

The cadets who remained in Crowborough didn’t miss-out on all the fun as they took part in an Aerospace Camp where they designed, budgeted and constructed their own aircraft.  They presented it and flew it and did a presentation to say how they would market it.

Only last weekend 5 cadets attended a pre Duke of Edinburgh’s Award camp at Mereworth where they learnt navigation, route planning and bag packing skills in preparation for starting their award.  They camped-out overnight, cooked on trangias.  For many this was their first camp away from home.
