The pop-up shop selling charity Christmas cards in Crowborough was officially opened by Hope Hill, who is thought to be the oldest “Cards for Good Causes” volunteer in the country.
Hope’s cousin was Dr Winter who was a well-known GP in Crowborough. Hope went to Edinburgh University where she obtained her science degree which enabled her to work during the Second World War doing vital work for the Government. After living and working in London, Hope married Jack a senior member of the Civil Service.
Gina Langley, Shop Manager said:
Having reached the fantastic age of 98 years we think she is the oldest volunteer for “Cards for Good Causes” in the country and luckily for us has been volunteering here in Crowborough for the past 20 years. Our sincere thanks go out to an incredible lady.
The shop sells Christmas cards for over 25 different charities, including Parkingson’s UK, RNLI, NSPCC, MS Society and Shelter. In addition, the shop sells other things you need to get ready for Christmas, from wrapping paper to advent calendars and gift tags, stocking-fillers and festive decorations.
The shop can be found at The United Church in Croft Road. The shop is open Monday to Saturday, between 10am to 4pm.
Anyone wishing to volunteer can call Gina or Cliff on 01892 669815 for more information.
