After months of negotiation by officers, yesterday the planning application for the 160 homes off Walshes Road was finally approved.

Walsh-Manor-Farm4This enables the developer to build 52 x four bed houses, 75 x three bed houses, 31 x two bed houses, and 2 x one bed appartments on land at Walsh Manor Farm in Alderbrook.  But before development can start Wealden District Council must give approval about the scale and appearance of the buildings and landscaping.

Last year Wealden District Councillors gave the go ahead to Rydon Homes to build 160 homes on land at Walsh Manor Farm.  Technically however the Planning Committee passed a “resolution to grant”, as the decision for outline planning permission was subject to agreement about many requirements and conditions.

Yesterday (18th December) a decision notice was issued.  It sets out 18 points and covers all the outstanding details, such as:

  • securing the adjacent recreational area (SANGS);
  • agreeing the design for the construction of the roads and pavements at the two new junctions with Walshes Road;
  • surveys and measure to protect species of reptiles, birds and mammals;
  • a programme of archaeological investigations;
  • a financial contribution towards the County Council to provide extra school places and library capacity; and,
  • approval of a ‘Code of Construction Practice’ which sets out a series of measures to be applied during construction.

Earlier this week, CrowboroughLife reported that a planning application had been submitted for a footbridge and temporary car park for the adjoining recreational area.  It is thought other planning applications are likely to come forward now the SANGS (Suitable Alternative Natural Green Spaces), as the recreational area is officially called, has been confirmed.  You might also be interested in reading article published in July about proposals to ease congestion on Western Road.  See below for other related articles below.
