Crowborough Town Council are to replace the fingerpost in Jarvis Brook at a cost of £1200.
The sign at the junction of the B2100 Rotherfield Road with Western Road fell down at the end of November or beginning of December. As the wood is rotten a new post is required.
There are nine fingerposts in Crowborough and it is believed they were last replaced 12 years ago. At the Environment Committee, Councillor Philip Fermor expressed concern about the speed of deterioration and is worried others might need to be replaced in the coming years.
There was a discussion whether alternative materials should be used, as apparently the signs near Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum are made of plastic. Councillors agreed to replace the fingerpost and stick to oak because they they felt they were part of the heritage of the town.
