A woman from Crowborough, who founded a company teaching people how to bake and decorate cakes, has been shortlisted as entrepreneur of the year.
Susi Witt from Rannoch Road had a successful legal career in the City, but motherhood and the desire for a occupation she felt more passionate about, motivated her to find a business she could run from home.
Suzi taught herself how to decorate cakes, and soon she was receiving orders for birthday and wedding cakes. Then she came first in an international cupcake competition and people began to ask her to teach them skills. Initially running courses at home, her company Pretty Witty Cakes has developed into much bigger things over the last few years
She now works with a team of expert tutors, and uses video tutorials to demonstrate to thousands of people around the world, how they too can decorate amazing cakes.
Suzi has beaten hundreds of others to the shortlist in the Nectar Small Business Awards. The Entrepreneur of the Year category will be decided by a panel of expert judges led by football club boss and assistant to Lord Sugar in The Apprentice Karren Brady.
If Suzi wins, she’ll receive £2,000 cash, 50,000 Nectar points, and the opportunity to receive personal business advice from Karren Brady at a round table advice session.
I am so excited about both of these awards. To make it to the finals with so many entries across the UK is amazing. I have worked really hard in setting up and establishing Pretty Witty Cakes and to receive such recognition is more than anyone could hope for.
The winners of both awards will be announced in September.
