Old community hall could soon be bulldozed and replaced with housing (July 2016)
A planning application has been submitted to demolish the old community hall in Park Road and in its place build seven houses.
Opened in 1925, the old building was the first headquarters of Crowborough’s Girl Guides. After the war it was also the home of Crowborough’s Youth Centre. An article on The Courier’s website explains the history of the building.
The Town Council have been waiting for the right time to sell the old dilapidated building to maximise the return to Crowborough’s taxpayers. Now the recreational space, adjacent to the 160-house development off Walshes Road, has been agreed, this had the affect of “unlocking” potential developments sites in Crowborough including the old CCA hall.
The application is to enable two x 4-bedroom houses, three x 3 bed and two 2-beds to be constructed. Two of the houses will be Afforable Houses (eg housing association or shared ownership). It is assumed in due course, the Town Council will decide to sell the site to a developer with outline planning permission in place.
