On Saturday 19th March, The Pet Food Shop on Croft Road in Crowborough will be offering you the opportunity to have your dog microchipped for just £15.
From 6th April 2016 it will be compulsory for all dogs over 8-weeks old to be microchipped. The new legislation has been introduced by the Government to reduce the number of strays and also to make it easier to re-unite lost pets with their owners.
Sally Wallace who volunteers for Many Tears Rescue, who has a training certificate, will be carrying-out the implants, and AVID MicroChips, a leading supplier of pet microchip products, are supplying the microchips at a special low price. The cost includes initial registration to the PETtrac database.
A microchip is approximately the size of a grain of rice and is inserted under the skin on the scuff of the neck in a similar fashion to a vaccination injection. All lost animals that are bought into vets, police and animal rescue centres are routinely scanned for a microchip.
If your dog is not chipped or your contact details are not kept up-to-date you face a fine of up to £500. So if you move or your details change make sure you update them within 21 days.
