Twins aim to raise £1,000 for The Gambia

James and Matt McCarthy, 17, from Crowborough whose focus is normally competing on the running track or swimming pool are shortly to embark on a 27km fundraising run in aid of their forthcoming trip to The Gambia with Beacon Academy.

Matt and James McCarthy from Crowborough claimed a team bronze medal for Great Britain at the 2016 UIPM Biathle World Championships in Sarasota, Florida.

The talented athletes who have just completed another successful competition season which featured gold and silver team medals as part of the GBR Biathle team at the European and World Championships competitions in Portugal and Spain, are hoping to raise £1,000 toward community projects in a country which suffers with high levels of poverty and under-development.

The twins are currently studying for their A levels at Beacon Academy and are looking forward to the trip in December where the School will visit a number of local villages and distribute everyone’s combined fundraising efforts across a number of deserving projects.

To celebrate the School’s 27 year association with The Gambia, the boys have decided to run 27km around Bewl Water and are seeking sponsorship.  Anyone wishing to donate can do so via their Just Giving page.
