Tom Korteweg passes away

Friends and colleagues have been paying tribute to R&D Training’s Tom Korteweg who has passed away.

Tom was well known in Crowborough having taught hundreds of people to drive as well as through his involvement in the local business community.

Tom was the Director of Rider and Driver Training Ltd, known as R&D Training.  Before qualifying as a DfT Driving Instructor in 1991, Tom was at one time a stores assistant for an electrical wholesaler, later becoming a stores manager. This led eventually to him running his own electrical installation business for 20 years.

Having been born in Rotterdam, Tom came to Crowborough in 1957, where, in due course, he married and raised a family. He was a member of the previous Chamber of Trade and was involved in Scouting for most of his life from being a Cub in North Holland to GSL of his own Group in Crowborough.

Jeremy Woolger, Chamber President said:

Tom was a well known face around Crowborough and a valuable member of the Executive Committee, always happy to muck in, put forward suggestions and contribute to the group.  His enthusiasm for the town and its inhabitants will be missed.
