Prosecutors to decide whether the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner should face charges

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has completed an investigation into an allegation that Katy Bourne, made a false statement during last year’s election regarding her expenses while serving as the Police and Crime Commissioner for Sussex.

The investigation follows a referral from the Sussex Police and Crime Panel after a complaint made by a member of the public.  The complainant alleged that on social media Mrs Bourne stated that she had not claimed any expenses during her four year term as PCC.   The complainant alleged that she had filed expense claims of approximately £385 between November 2012 and October 2013.

The IPCC has referred the matter to the Crown Procesution Service.   It does not mean that criminal charges will necessarily follow.  The CPS will decide whether charges should be brought, based on the test set out in the Code for Crown Prosecutors.
