Crowborough Town Council awards over £50,000 in grants

At last night’s Town Council meeting, Councillors considered applications for funding from local voluntary organisations.  The Council has a policy for making grants to groups which contribute to the welfare of the community by improving or supporting activities or facilities.

Wealden-Citizens-AdviceIn total £57,560 was awarded in the next financial year 2016/17, with most of the money going to, a drop-in centre for young people, and Wealden Citizens Advice.  The grant applications from ENGage and Revitalise Respite Holidays were not successful.

Next year Beacon Swimming Club will celebrate their 40th anniversary.  They were awarded money towards a swimming gala and a display to highlight their achievements.   2016 is also the 50th anniversary of the twinning of Crowborough and Montargis, and the Society of the Friends of Montargis were given a £3,000 grant towards organising a weekend of events for visitors from the French town.

Social GroupsWhats-On-3

Councillors were so impressed by the work of two groups which organise social activities for older people in Crowborough that they decided to give them more money than they were originally asking for.  Noleen Carpenter from “Ditch The Slippers” told Town Councillors about the singing and games groups they run in Crowborough as well as other activities they provide in the Uckfield area.   The Darby and Joan Club help elderly people who live alone to get out and meet people. Representatives from both groups told Councillors about the difficulties they face providing transport and their reliance on volunteer drivers.
