Crowborough pub boarded-up

The Railway Tavern (previously called the Welcome Stranger) opposite Crowborough railway station has closed and has recently been boarded-up.

Railway Tavern (formerly Welcome Stranger) Crowborough HillJohn Humphreys, Corporate Affairs Manager at Shepherd Neame said:

After careful consideration, the brewery decided to sell the Railway Tavern.  The decision was not taken lightly, but the pub does not fit with our current business strategy.the-blue-anchor

The tenancy at Shepherd Neame’s other pub in Crowborough has also just been put up for sale.  The Blue Anchor on Beacon Road was extensively renovated at the beginning of the year, when Stuart Nicholson took over as landlord.  The asking price is £23,000.  The pub is still trading.

John Humphrey added:

The tenancy for the Blue Anchor is currently available and we’d love to hear from anyone in the town who is interested in taking on this popular pub.
