The national league tables published last week, shows Beacon Academy in Crowborough is the number one state-funded school in East Sussex and in the top 3% of schools in England.
The “Progress 8” measure shows how much pupils improved over their time at secondary school.
Progress 8 is now the Government’s main measure of school performance. It was introduced in 2016, replacing the previous measure of the proportion of pupils gaining a Grade C or above in five GCSE subjects including English and maths.
Last year Beacon’s published Progress 8 score was 0.36. This year their Progress 8 score is 0.81 this places the school not only at the top of the table in East Sussex, but in the top 2.82% of schools in England.
Headteacher, Anna Robinson said:
We are absolutely delighted to have received this confirmation of our high-ranking position in the league tables both locally and nationally. I would like to, once again, congratulate our phenomenal students and staff for their unrelenting dedication, resilience, determination and sheer hard work that has led them to achieve some really exceptional outcomes. As ever, I would also like to thank our parents and carers for their immeasurable support – together we have all ensured that our students were in a prime position to achieve the very best outcomes to support them to fulfil their ambitions for their futures and to go on and succeed in life, whatever path they choose to take, leaving our school as confident, articulate, well-rounded young people, ready to take on the challenge of life in the 21st Century.
The 2017 results data is provisional. It does not take account of accepted amendment requests made by schools to remove pupils and the addition of late results and remarks. Revised results (including independent schools) and full breakdowns will be published in January 2018.
