New World Champ Alex Hook

On the 3rd September, Crowborough’s Alex Hook fought for the vacant IKF Junior World Lightweight K-1 Title.

Alex Hook photographed with his opponent Corey O Malley, and his trainer and supporters from Assassins Gym in Crowborough.

The fight took place at “Kombat Zone” in the Casino Rooms in Rochester, over five 2 minute rounds of kickboxing.

His opponent Corey O Malley, fights out of the Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club in Ireland and earned a shot at the World -60kg K-1 crown after recently defeating a Mexican in the final of the WKU World Championships.  On their Facebook page, his Club described the fight as “an absolute tear up”.  Hook dominated throughout and the fight was ended on a Technical Knockout in Round 4.

Alex, who trains at Assassins Gym in Jarvis Brook, had prepared with a nine week intense training camp, covering strength and conditioning technical striking sessions and lots of rounds sparring.

Alex previously won a multiple range of K-1 titles, including:

ICO ENGLISH K-1 CHAMPION
ICO FIVE NATIONS K-1 CHAMPION
ICO BRITISH CHAMPION (2 weight divisions)
IKF BRITISH K-1 CHAMPION
ISKA BRITISH K-1 CHAMPION

ICO BRITISH OPEN CHAMPION x3
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP GOLD MEDALIST x4
EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP GOLD MEDALIST x3

His trainer Lewis Pears said:

All this has been achieved in under four years of training.  Alex came to the gym with zero experience and knowledge of kickboxing, so this is some achievement.  He is regarded without doubt the number one fighter in this country and potentially the world.

The event was made possible by Adam Thain, Managing Director of Memorial Benches UK.  Without his help and sponsorship this fight would not of taken place, so a big thank you to him regarding his input to Alex and Assassins Gym.
