Accident on Ashdown Forest leaves elderly couple in critical condition

Police are seeking witnesses to a crash on the Ashdown Forest on today (Friday 24th July) which left two people from Hartfield critically ill.Sussex Police Badge

It happened shortly before 1pm at Kingstanding, where the B2026 meets the B2188.  A 29-year-old Eastbourne man was also seriously hurt. He was driving a blue Vauxhall Astra which was in collision with a grey Citroen C3 Executive.

He was taken to the Pembury Hospital where he was treated for a broken arm.

The 81-year-old Citroen driver and his 76-year-old wife, who was the front seat passenger, were both taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

Both have been detained with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries.

Roads in the area were closed to through traffic while the incident was dealt with.

The doctor and paramedic from the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance also attended, but all the casualties were taken to hospital by land ambulance.
